St. Thomas' Outreach Commission Annual Report 2009
Thanks to the financial and project support from our congregation, Outreach was able to fulfill our mission of reaching out locally and globally in 2009. The Outreach budget supports not-for-profits as near as the Community Action Partnership, the Friendship Inn, the Hamilton Food Cupboard, Heritage Farms, the Interfaith Project, and Rural Health Initiatives (Carol Compton) and as far reaching as Africa (Educare Africa), Armenia (Children of Armenia Fund), Burma (Brackett Foundation), Haiti (St. Vincent's), and a variety of places in between.
A special literacy project was spearheaded to increase the collection of gently used and new books for the Hamilton Central School Bookmobile (McNeiece Foundation recipient). It took place at St. Thomas' Church and at the Colgate Bookstore, with a 10% discount offering by Colgate on new purchases.
Not only did support take the form of financial contributions and item collections, but parishioners' skills and talents were shared in the ongoing ministry to the Camp Georgetown community through a special Christmas dinner, tutoring services, and art recreation.
Ways to donate time and talents in lieu of spending money were enumerated on a "Recession Busting" refrigerator list as Christmas gift suggestions.
The Committee welcomes any new ideas for furthering our reach both locally and globally in 2010!
